Taikurtirna Tirra Apinthi - Making Families Safer
What we offer…
Taikurtirna Tirra-Apinthi is a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, family focused approach to reduce the number of Aboriginal children entering out-of-home care.
Taikurtirna Tirra-Apanthi is focused on achieving the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The model is based on the understanding that it is in the child’s best interests to remain in the care of their family if it is a safe option.
Practitioners support parents to address the issues that place their children at risk of being removed. This model includes family led decision making, coordination of safety plans, therapeutic and trauma-informed practical support.
This is an outreach model to engage families where they feel safe, either in their homes or elsewhere.
To be eligible for Taikurtirna Tirra-Apanthi , families must meet all of the following criteria:
Have children in the family home or children are part of the family
Have at least one parent or child of Aboriginal or Torres Strait descent
Have at least one child who is at imminent risk of removal into care
Referrals must come from the Department of Child Protection. We cannot accept outside referrals.
